House Memorial 5

You can download and view House Memorial 5
Brief Explanation:

The Memorial is asking the House to postpone discussions on PERA during this short session until there is ample time to review options. An actuary study needs to be conducted to understand the solvency of our PERA. This will give us an opportunity to have some imput as to how new PERA legislation is written. It is our goal to ensure that all current employees are not affected by any new PERA legislation.

Update:
To all Apoa Members,
Senate and House Joint Memorial 18 cleared the legislative committee and was given a fast track to the house floor late Tuesday night. We were there when it happened, and we are relieved that some of the pressure on the PERA reforms has been relieved. Memorial bills from the house and senate do not require the Governor’s signature, so this will clear the house with no more snags. What will happen now is a NM state representative will form a task force (we hope to have a seat) that will begin to draft language over the next 10 months. This language will ultimately contain what PERA changes are permanently made in 2013. It is important you understand there WILL be changes to our pension plan. But we now have a voice in what changes are to be made, and carry some influence concerning protecting police officers' retirement plans. This was not the case prior to our memorial being drafted. If you have any questions please contact me at any time,,I work for you,,be safe.
